Check Out This Stylized 3D Reimagination of Ellie from The Last of Us Part 2
Do you imagine the game in this style?
Ward Dermaut, a 3D Character Modeler, shared a stylized 3D reimagination of Ellie Williams from The Last of Us Part 2 on LinkedIn and ArtStation. It was based on a 2D design by Ben Luckhart.
Dermaut explained that, as a big fan of the games, he wanted to capture Ellie in a dynamic pose, with few props and minimal detail. He sculpted her in ZBrush, retopologized her in Maya, textured her in Substance 3D, and rendered her in Arnold.
The character has details that can look simple, but they add a lot of narrative depth, like the scratch on the face, the bandage on the arm, the iconic tattoo, the tear in the shirt, or the blood-stained knife.
The artist shared a WIP image of the sculpting process:
Dermaut also made an animated reimagination of Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. He used this project to practice his lighting and rendering skills.
This grizzly bear was based on a concept by Barry Reynolds. For this one, Dermaut added a salmon for extra storytelling:
