France's President Emmanuel Macron has announced a new international video game festival taking place in France.
The president shared the plan at the Lumière Summit on September 7. "As video games are part of our culture, we are going to create an international video game festival," Emmanuel Macron wrote on X/Twitter. The president called the planned festival a "global event of creation, innovation, players, and the industry."
"Major French global video game successes remind us of the fruitfulness of this creation, of this creativity, which is also an industry. We need to give it more recognition and succeed in gaining everyone's support." The date and location are not set yet.
The Lumière Summit is an event named after Auguste and Louis Lumière, the pioneering filmmakers from France. The event presents conferences, discussions, and workshops featuring representatives from across the global film, television, and gaming ecosystem.
One of the most recent successful titles in the French video game industry is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from Sandfall Interactive, which was praised by President Emmanuel Macron more than once. The game became Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025. 28 developers from Sandfall Interactive were even awarded knighthood by France's Ministry of Culture.
