Lead Character Artist Details a Terrifying Boss Creature from Killing Floor 3

It's really cool seeing how game characters are created.

Samantha Rogers, Lead Character Artist at Tripwire Interactive, shared on her ArtStation a Killing Floor 3 boss creature that she worked on.

Killing Floor 3 is a first-person shooter game developed and published by Tripwire Interactive that was released in 2025. The character and creature designs are incredibly detailed and impressive to look at, and seeing how they were created is really interesting.

Samantha Rogers is an artist with 10 years of studio experience. She used Blender, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, Marmoset Toolbag, and Unreal Engine to create the Impaler.

She also shared some of the damage phases and renders of the creation process, which gives insight into how a character can evolve over its creation:

Here is the concept created by Senior Concept Artist Alex Palma. The image shows how the fight functioned in three phases, with a hidden weapon and hit zones under the armor.

The work of a character designer can also directly influence gameplay designers as they plan out how a player might fight this enemy.

Rogers has also shared other Killing Floor 3's characters that she has created, like this Fleshpound, which is a strong enemy, but not considered a boss, or the character Devlin, who served as a test subject because it was one of the first characters that they created. Or the Cyst, a character that, originally, was introduced in Killing Floor 2, but Rogers had the chance to work on the KF3 version.
