Learn How to Recreate VFX Inspired by Plasma Ball Lamps in Godot
Tendex Line Projects shared a detailed tutorial, and the second part is planned.
Tendex Line Projects has shared a comprehensive 46-minute tutorial on creating electric-like VFX inspired by plasma ball lamps in the Godot engine, also using Blender to create the supporting mesh.
The video covers what happens on the GPU – the shader and the mesh, breaking down rendering and shader concepts such as normal vectors and tangent space, UV maps, vertex color, view vector, Perlin noise, and more. An important part of the tutorial is the Blender-Godot workflow, showing how the creator moves back and forth between both programs to iterate on the effect.
This is the first part of the lesson, and the creator plans to release a follow-up video.
Tendex Line Projects has more videos on using the Godot engine, such as a ragdoll setup timelapse, a breakdown of hybrid physics, animating trees, and devlogs on the unnamed 2.5D game the creator is working on:
This isn't the first time we've covered Godot VFX – you can explore more of the amazing tutorials and artwork showcases, such as Le Lu's tutorial on a stylized fire shader and a learning video on creating VFX textures using the engine, nojoule's portal VFX inspired by Binbun's parallax portal, and insane visual effects from the Control-inspired game Psych Rift by AblazeInt:
