This Melancholic Silent Hill-Inspired Adventure Set in a Half-Dead Place Is Out
My Beautiful Faraway, Please Don't Be Cruel To Me is a 2000s-inspired, dreamlike adventure created by solo developer arch1t3ct.
My Beautiful Faraway, Please Don't Be Cruel To Me is a beautifully gloomy adventure full of bizarre environments to explore and cryptic puzzles to solve. This 2000s-inspired game made by arch1t3ct, a solo developer, looks like a weirdly comforting fever dream, where every odd detail somehow makes perfect sense.
The game is a slow walking sim where you mostly explore your surroundings, talk to weird people you meet on the way through this world of gloom, and solve peculiar puzzles. As arch1t3ct explained, their title is "inspired by older adventure games where you have to explore, pay attention to small details, and figure things out on your own without much guidance."
Although the gameplay looks simple and mostly requires wandering that can get you to the ending in 3 hours, there are lots of things hiding underneath the surface. The developer hints that there is optional content to explore, and depending on what you end up discovering, there are multiple endings in the game.
If you want a proper My Beautiful Faraway experience, get ready to pay attention, think, and remember. On Reddit, arch1t3ct revealed that the game has lots of 'keep a notebook'-style puzzles and quests, and taking notes might even help with navigation. If you're into games that keep your brain busy and test your deduction skills, this one is for you.

My Beautiful Faraway's dark, eerie vibe is an homage to the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series, as well as Death Stranding. According to the developer, all they did to achieve the depressing atmospheric lighting reminiscent of those games' visual aesthetic was tweak Screen-Space Ambient Occlusion and volumetric fog settings in the world environment.
The low-poly-style, PS1-like visuals were based on Northern Journey and Lunacid, while the game mechanics were inspired by Dear Esther, Syberia, and Fatum Betula.
The developer shared that they started working on the title in March 2025. As they confessed, not only is My Beautiful Faraway their very first game release, but it was also their first game development experience ever. With no practice projects in their portfolio, arch1t3ct learned Godot along the way.
