GTA 6 Is Reportedly Coming to PC in Early 2027

Rockstar reportedly plans to release GTA 6 on PC during Q1 2027, only a few months after its November 19 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to sources.

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will reportedly launch on PC during the first quarter of 2027, potentially giving PC players a considerably shorter wait than Rockstar’s previous major releases.

The new information comes from GamesBeat, which says four industry sources familiar with Rockstar’s plans independently identified the first three months of 2027 as the intended PC release window. The sources remained anonymous to avoid damaging their business relationships, and Rockstar did not respond to the publication before its report was released.

Rockstar has not formally announced a PC edition or given it a release date. The only confirmed versions of GTA 6 remain PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, both scheduled to launch digitally on November 19, 2026.

If GamesBeat’s information is accurate, the PC version could arrive between approximately six weeks and four months after the console release. That would represent a dramatic change from GTA 5, which debuted on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 but did not reach PC until April 2015, or roughly 19 months later. Red Dead Redemption 2 similarly launched on consoles in October 2018 before arriving on PC in November 2019.

However, a major factor this time around could be the ongoing popularity of GTA 5 on PC for more than a decade, specifically GTA Online and mods. The online community for that game is still extremely active, so trying to capitalize on that as soon as possible makes sense.

A faster PC release would make strategic sense when considering Rockstar’s broader plans for the franchise. The studio acquired Cfx.re, the team behind the popular GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 role-playing frameworks FiveM and RedM, in 2023. Rockstar has also reportedly explored more formal creation tools and user-generated content for the future of GTA Online.

The reported window is also notably earlier than most previous predictions. As we recently explained in its GTA 6 overview, Rockstar’s historical release pattern suggested that PC players could be waiting until late 2027 or beyond.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously addressed the absence of a PC announcement without ruling out a later version. He argued that Rockstar has traditionally approached platforms individually before making further announcements “in due time.” It's reasonable to assume that the PC version won't be announced until later this year (perhaps at The Game Awards?) in order to maximize early console sales.

PC players also cannot use Xbox Cloud Gaming as an early workaround. Microsoft recently clarified that the console edition will not be streamable to PCs through its cloud service at launch, despite some initial confusion surrounding the companies’ arrangement. Rockstar still has not announced a native PC version, making GamesBeat’s report the first substantial indication of a specific window.

The reported timing may also connect with the game’s multiplayer rollout. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy recently said Rockstar’s new multiplayer experience would arrive in 2027, although Rockstar has not officially confirmed that window.

Launching the PC version during Q1 could consequently place it near the beginning of Rockstar’s next online push. It would give modders, role-playing communities, streamers, and content creators access to the game while interest surrounding the console release remains exceptionally high.

It would also be a considerable technical undertaking. Rockstar’s extended gameplay reveal demonstrated an enormous increase in crowd density, interior detail, animation complexity, lighting, weather effects, reflections, and environmental simulation over GTA V. Supporting the enormous variety of PC hardware while maintaining those systems will require extensive optimization, testing, and scalability work.
