Take a Walk in This Ethereal Forest Environment Made with SpeedTree, Substance 3D, & UE5

Young Kwon Kim focused on the mystical atmosphere of the scene.

Principal Production Artist Young Kwon Kim showcased this mesmerizing forest scene created with Unreal Engine 5.

Apart from UE5, the artist used SpeedTree, Quixel Megascans, Substance 3D Designer, and Substance 3D Painter. The artist spent two days bringing the scene to life. Young Kwon Kim shared that the goal was to create a mystical atmosphere within a short production timeframe and provided some technical details of the setup. The ethereal vibe was achieved through lighting, using volumetric fog and light shafts. Also, the artist set up complex landscape materials and layered textures and followed a procedural workflow, utilizing PCG to ensure the realistic density of the foliage distribution.

Young Kwon Kim used custom-made hero assets, including the centerpiece trees and varied foliage. As for water simulation, the artist integrated Fluid Flux for realistic stream and water interaction.
