Technical Material and Shader Artist Oday Abuzaeed, one of the winners of Substance 3D Designer Insanity Awards, unveiled this atmospheric toon-style 3D environment. To create the scene, the artist used Unreal Engine, Substance 3D Designer, Substance 3D Painter, Houdini, Marvelous Designer, Blender, and ZBrush.
Oday Abuzaeed shared that during the work on the project, he developed several custom shaders, such as cloth wind animation, layered wood materials, and a stylized linework post-process shader to enhance the cozy, fantasy-inspired aesthetic. According to the artist, the latter became the biggest challenge, as getting it to work correctly with depth and normals without breaking the mood required extra attention.
