DLSS Is Officially Coming To Blender 5.3
It keeps the viewport responsive and interactive while letting artists see the final result in real-time.
We knew DLSS support in Blender would eventually arrive ever since the viral SIGGRAPH 2025 video by Andrew Price, but there was no clear release window. That has now changed with NVIDIA's COMPUTEX 2026 keynote, where the company announced RTX Spark, DLSS 4.5 news, and several other major updates.
Building on DLSS 4.5 with its Super Resolution model, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, and 6X Multi Frame Generation, we're now getting DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction. It uses a next-gen transformer model to improve image quality in ray-traced and path-traced games. Notably, it should reduce ghosting and improve lighting accuracy and responsiveness in games like Pragmata, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Alan Wake 2.
Blender's Cycles is adding DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction as a new denoiser, on top of the existing OptiX integration. The update will ship with Blender 5.3 this fall.
For 3D Artists who need to work interactively in a scene while seeing near-final render quality, DLSS support could significantly improve lighting and look-dev workflows.
Right now, enabling DLSS in Blender takes some workarounds. If you want to try it yourself, we've explained the process in this article. And if you want to see the actual benefits, Francesco Piacenti has talked about them:
Blender 5.2 LTS, currently in alpha, is introducing new cloth and hair systems, which many artists are already experimenting with. It's scheduled to be officially released on July 14th. Blender is also working on adding its own texture layer system.
More information on DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction can be found here, along with RTX Spark, the central announcement of the event, which marks a challenge to major PC industry players such as Apple and Intel. It's basically a full platform built for the next generation of AI-focused Windows PCs, integrating CPU, GPU, unified memory, and AI accelerators.
