Have a Look at This Surreal 3D Character Based on a 2D Illustration
It looks like a character straight out of a dream.
Ange Capitaine, 3D Character and Creature Artist, shared on her ArtStation a project she made for a Mentorship Project at the Think Tank Training Center.
The character is based on an illustration created by Jiun Qui, whose main idea was to create a character and a universe that exists within a tear, making the viewer think and imagine the things we don't usually see with our naked eye.
Capitaine said in the post that she created the 3D model with the help of Character Artist, Piotr Zieliński, who gave her feedback to perfect her artwork. She also listed her workflow:
- Base made using the MetaHuman character basemesh
- Sculpted in ZBrush
- Clothes made in Marvelous Designer
- Retopologized in Topogun
- UVs done in Rizom UV
- Bakes done in Adobe Substance 3D Painter and Marmoset Toolbag
- Textured in Adobe Substance 3D Painter, Sampler, and Designer
- LookDev, Materials, and Rendering done in UE 5.6
- Hair made in Houdini using the MetaHuman for Houdini Plug-in and Maya X-Gen
The character looks mesmerizing, with surreal details that make you wonder about her story. The artist also shared part of the rendering and UVs process:

Check out other projects by Ange Capitaine, like The Stranger, which is a real-time character, or her Head Texturing Practice, which also looks very impressive.
