Dragon Age Gets A New Animated Series on Netflix

Netflix unveiled Dragon Age: Absolution, a new animated series based on the Dragon Age video game franchise.

After the speculation that Netflix might be working on an adaptation of the popular BioWare video game franchise Dragon Age, the streaming service confirmed Dragon Age: Absolution, a six-episode animated series that will premiere in December 2022.

The show was announced at the recent Geeked Week event revealing a teaser trailer that features a first look at the series showing off a mixture of anime-like 2D animation and 3D environments along with several action scenes that demonstrate both melee fighting and magic.

According to Netflix, the new series is a standalone show which will follow a story of new characters inspired by Dragon Age lore including elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, and demons. More details will be revealed later with Netflix promising to unveil some "special surprises" regarding the characters in the future.

The new show will be set in the Tevinter Imperium, the oldest extant human nation within the Dragon Age universe that is ruled by a powerful magocracy. As characters have not been named yet, it is currently unclear where in the Dragon Age's timeline the series will take place.

Dragon Age: Absolution is being made in collaboration with BioWare and produced by Red Dog Culture House. It is created by showrunner Mairghread Scott who is credited for a number of Transformers animated shows and the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series. Casting for the series has not been announced yet.
