EU Antitrust Regulator to Reportedly Approve Microsoft's Activision Blizzard Deal Next Week

EU's competition authority, the European Commission, is reportedly set to approve Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard next week. That's according to Reuters, which, citing its sources, reported that the EU antitrust regulator is likely to announce its decision on the Microsoft-Activision Blizzard merger on May 15.

Earlier, the European Commission shifted the deadline for its decision on Microsoft's Activision Blizzard deal to May 22. Previous reports have indicated that Microsoft's offer to provide game licensing agreements to its competitors, such as NVIDIA, Boosteroid, and Ubitus, could potentially resolve antitrust concerns.

The reported imminent clearance of Microsoft's Activision Blizzard acquisition by the European Commission comes a few weeks after the UK competition authority, the CMA, blocked the deal, citing concerns about competition in cloud gaming.

Following the ruling by the CMA, both Microsoft and Activision promptly announced their plan to appeal. Microsoft has even reportedly hired a lawyer who has a track record of defeating the EU regulator in competition cases to lead its appeal against the decision made by the CMA.
