Millions Of Maggots Donated To Charity In Honour Of The Maggot King

If Duriel could smile…he would.”

What meaningful activities could one undertake to celebrate Earth Day? You might consider planting trees or participating in a litter clean-up effort, as do I. However, compared to some efforts, these actions might seem rather modest.

Blizzard Entertainment, the developer behind the Diablo series, embarked on a unique charitable endeavor for Earth Day. The company donated millions of maggots to Tiggywinkles UK, a leading wildlife hospital, in a gesture linked both to Earth Day and a character from their popular game.

The donation was made in honor of Duriel, the Maggot King, a notorious character in the Diablo series. The Diablo team pledged to donate 45,000 maggots for every 25 likes received on a specific tweet. This offer ran until April 22, and the maximum donation was set at 30 million maggots, which are birds' favorite treats.

The campaign quickly gained traction among fans, and the maximum donation of 30 million maggots was reached within a few hours of the announcement. This significant contribution is expected to feed the patients at Tiggywinkles for two years.

A Twitter user from the UK estimated the cost of this campaign to be around £1 per like, saying 'they are not cheap to buy'. In response to this estimation, Blizzard humorously tweeted:

It might sound a bit crazy, but it's somehow reasonable. Just like the developer said: "The Maggot King rests easy knowing his brood has been used for good on Earth Day."
