Zynga Buys Torchlight 3 Developer Echtra Games

The team is now working on a new RPG for cross-platform play.

Zynga revealed they acquired Torchlight 3 developer Echtra Games. The duo decided that the terms of the deal should not be disclosed.

Founded in 2016, the San Francisco-based Echtra has released one game so far, Torchlight 3. Zynga is interested in working with Echtra's experienced team of developers, including Echtra founder Max Schaefer, who contributed to the development of the first two Diablo games and all three Torchlight titles.

"Max and his team at Echtra Games are responsible for some of the most legendary game properties ever created, and they are experts in the action RPG genre and cross-platform development," wrote Zynga CEO Frank Gibeau. "This acquisition will be instrumental in growing our iconic licenses and brands from mobile to PCs and consoles, while helping to further expand Zynga's total addressable market."

The first joint project is said to be "a new, yet to be announced RPG for cross-platform play." You can learn more about Echtra Games here.
