At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.

A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.

The Director of Privacy will help establish and lead the Privacy Engineering team within our Infosec organization.

As the Director of Privacy Engineering, you will foster innovation while leading a build-first privacy and software engineering team. Additionally, you will be a key decision maker and owner of the Privacy Initiatives at Roblox which ensure that Roblox is an engaging and safe place.

This unique position requires someone with a comprehensive understanding of both the regulatory landscape and engineering principles.

You will:

  • Establish and lead a privacy engineering team consisting of individuals with expertise in security, governance, compliance, and engineering.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the regulatory environment, staying informed about evolving privacy laws and compliance standards.
  • Act as a liaison between legal and engineering teams to ensure policies align with regulatory requirements.
  • Advocate for our commitment to privacy and responsible data handling both internally and externally.
  • Take ownership of privacy initiatives, ensuring alignment with the company's values and objectives.

You have:

  • Strong knowledge of data privacy and security concepts, including Privacy by Design principles, and have applied experience leading privacy engineering projects
  • An expert understanding of global Privacy and Data Protection regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA) and their typical engineering solutions
  • Experience building and leading a build-first privacy and software engineering team from a very early stage, scoping the work, setting the vision, and making great hiring decisions
  • 12+ years of experience managing leaders both in your organization and through cross-functional influence
  • The ability to develop healthy cross-functional partnerships with key stakeholders and other technical and non-technical teams.

You are:

  • Knowledgeable: You understand many domains of security and privacy and can synthesize information to make fast, high-quality decisions with less than complete data. You can use your knowledge to challenge your team and your stakeholders, as they will challenge you.
  • Creative: You take a creative and strategic approach to solving hard problems. We have an incredible platform and many difficult security problems that demand a unique approach.
  • Team-oriented: You are a "people magnet". You invigorate teams and you are used to leading technical teams in any situation.
  • A Trusted Leader (this was Communication, influence, and leadership): You have experience with setting a vision to solve company-wide problems, and working across organizations to empower your team to execute it.
