A Look at Next-Gen Traffic Jams in the UE5-Powered Matrix Demo

Here's what next-gen games feel like.

In case you missed the news, the Unreal Engine has launched its Matrix demo that shows the true possibilities of next-gen consoles. The Matrix Awakens user experience, powered by Unreal Engine 5, has been revealed at The Game Awards 2021. The demo, now available to download it for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S free of charge, is not just about the impressive car chase – the world itself is far more interesting to explore.

One of the coolest things, apart from detailed skyscrapers and the amazing lighting, is how the game allows you to create huge traffic jams. A Reddit user elalextamez shared a great example of how you can leave a car and the demo generates large-scale traffic jams. Do you know the craziest part? Cars don't disappear after you turn your camera and the demo keeps everything live in real-time.

The whole thing runs smoothly thanks to Unreal Engine 5 and its Nanite system that allows running millions of polygons in a single scene in real-time. You can find an ultimate guide to the technology here.

What other things from the demo impressed you the most? Share your opinion in the comments. Also, don't forget to join our new Reddit pageour new Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we are sharing breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
