Blender Studio Released Flamenco 3

The render manager has been rewritten from scratch.

Blender Studio announced the release of Flamenco 3 – a new version of the open-source render farm manager used by the studio. It had been rewritten from scratch to better support its core design principles of simplicity, transparency, interactivity, and robustness.

  • Simplicity: Flamenco should be up and running in as few steps as possible. It should work “offline”, and not depend on any online service.
  • Transparency: It should be possible to quickly find out the state of the job queue, workers, tasks, down to the output of each render command.
  • Interactivity: The user interface should be fast and always interactive, delivering a smooth user experience.
  • Robustness: Flamenco should be stable and predictable in its behavior, handle errors gracefully and clearly.

In the video above, you can see how to set it up in just five minutes, so the ideas seem to be working.

Flamenco is being used in the production of Blender Studio's Project Heist. You can try it yourself as it's open-source and stable enough to use. Designed to be customizable, Flamenco allows TDs to specify job types and fit into the pipeline.

The software runs on all major operating systems. Get it here for free and don't forget to join our Reddit page and our Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
