CD Projekt Dispels Rumors That Sony Is Acquiring It

"CD Projekt is not for sale. We want to remain independent."

During a recent call with investors following the release of the financial report, the CEO of CD Projekt Adam Kiciński addressed the rumors regarding Sony's alleged plans to acquire the publisher and reaffirmed the company's unchanged stance on a possible takeover.

The rumors about Sony's potential acquisition of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher publisher originated from a Discord server allegedly associated with a Destiny 2 insider. The leaker also claimed that CD Projekt is involved in the development of Days Gone 2.

Although the credibility of this source was questionable, rumors spread across the internet and eventually reached CD Projekt's management, leading to inquiries from investors.

"Nothing has changed in our end," Kiciński responded to a question about the validity of these reports. "I can repeat what we have been saying throughout the years – CD Projekt is not for sale. We want to remain independent."

Kiciński expressed confidence in the company's current strategy, which he described it as "excellent", and emphasized that despite the challenges involved in executing the strategy, CD Projekt is still committed to following its own path. He also noted that the news of a takeover was nothing more than a "pure rumor."

The company's financial report disclosed a 19% decline in revenues compared to the previous year. Additionally, the report unveiled an impressive milestone for the Witcher franchise, with a collective sales figure of over 75 million copies across its three games. Notably, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt contributed significantly to this achievement, accounting for over 50 million units sold.
