Check Out This Simple Adaptive Subdivision Blender Modifier

This Blender tool subdivides your meshes based on the camera position and automatically increases or decreases the subdivisions based on the camera distance, helping to save precious memory to add even more assets to your scene.

The name of this Blender modifier is true to its nature, as it's a very easy-to-use tool that might come in handy when you need to save time and memory while working on the scene.

Adaptive Subdivision subdivides your meshes based on the camera position and automatically increases or decreases the subdivisions based on the camera distance, only subdividing the polygons that are facing the camera.

To use it, you only need to download and save the .blend file to your Asset Library folder or Append the file to your scene by selecting the Adaptive Subdivision option inside the NodeTree folder.

After that, you just need to add the Adaptive Subdivision to the mesh that you want to subdivide, go to the Modifiers tab, select the Render Camera, and adjust the settings until you get the geometry that you need.

There are several controls in this modifier as explained by the developer, for example, Render Camera is where you load the camera that will gonna be used as a reference to subdivide the mesh, Base Resolution is the minimum mesh resolution to be used, Render Subdivisions is the maximum subdivision used at the render time, and Viewport Subdivisions is the maximum subdivision used on the viewport.

Adaptive Subdivision offers two subdivision methods. The Fast one uses a simple subdivision with a blur filter for faster calculations, while the Accurate method uses Catmull-Clark and is better when you need to do a more precise displacement using baked maps.
