Dino Patti, one of the minds behind Limbo and Inside, and his team want to build a system that will help developers turn games into shared multiplayer experiences.

Coherence has previously welcomed industry veterans from DICE, Unity, and Playdead, and the announced goal is to democratize online games by supporting huge virtual worlds for game dev teams. They promise to provide integration with Unity and other game engines, so it should quite easy to add multiplayer connectivity to all kinds of games, the company states.

It is said that the new platform will be based on a battle-tested game networking approach used in fast-paced triple-A games like Battlefield.

“We want to break the cycle of rehashing the same online game designs over and over due to limited technology," said Dino Patti, CEO of Coherence. "With our platform, we aspire to get out of the developer’s way so they can try out crazy creative ideas with minimal risk. We’d love to see coherence used at game jams.”

“With this investment, we’re looking to grow our team in Malmö and are also exploring the possibilities of building strategic satellite offices in other cities with large developer communities,” Patti added.
