Cyberpunk Battle Royale Off The Grid Got Its First Trailer

The game written by District 9 director Neill Blomkamp is set to be released in 2023.

Gunzilla Games released a teaser trailer for its upcoming 'cyberpunk Battle Royale 2.0' Off The Grid. In the game, you join a corporate war and get sent "on head-spinning assassination and sabotage missions to the greater glory and market share of your chosen faction."

In 2021, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp announced he joined Gunzilla Games as a chief visionary officer to work on the game.

"The approach is to try to inject the story in a way where players have the option of engaging straight up in the battle royale or have the option of diving into story and story missions, almost like a campaign that you would be playing to follow a story narrative," Blomkamp told GameSpot.

Speaking of the story, in the game, three different organizations are fighting over a space elevator that leads to an asteroid mining operation that's creating an immense amount of wealth, drawing the attention of a variety of interested parties from around the globe, all of which, we presume, the player needs to eliminate.

The game's story told from different points of view seems to be an important part of OTG. Blomkamp said the idea is for the players' actions over time to have an effect on the story, the world, and the environment.

Off The Grid features 150 players fighting each other, with PvE missions also taking place in real-time.

"With Off The Grid our ambition is not only to create the Battle Royale 2.0 by adding deep player progression, but to build an evolving world designed to take on a life of its own, changing in unexpected ways each time a player rejoins the game," said Blomkamp.

The game is made in Unreal Engine 5 and is set to be launched in 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
