Darkest Dungeon II Has Sold Over 300,000 Copies

The game has achieved this milestone in 18 months since its Early Access release.

The sales of Darkest Dungeon II, a tactical roguelike developed and published by Red Hook Studios as the sequel to Darkest Dungeon, have surpassed 300,000 copies.

The studio announced this new milestone in an interview with VG247, noting that the game initially sold 100,000 copies, but after a year and a half of being released in Early Access, the sales have increased to over 300,000 units.

In comparison to its predecessor, sales of the sequel have been noticeably weaker as the original game sold 650,000 copies within the first 12 months.

Apparently, lower sales were in part affected by players' criticism regarding Darkest Dungeon II's relationship system, overall progression, and the richness of the game's traversal mechanic. However, according to the developers, the team has been listening to players' feedback, and based on it, have been diligently crafting new content.

"We wanted to re-approach our roadmap a little bit after launch, just because some of the things we just weren't happy with, while some of the features weren’t performing to our standards. So we had some neat ideas for additional things that may make a re-appearance later on," Red Hook's design director Tyler Sigman and creative director Chris Bourassa said.

Darkest Dungeon II's full release will take place on May 8, 2023. The game will be available for PC via Steam.
