Foundry has Released Modo 15.1

The update features OmniHaul, a new system that brings gesture-based control of tool properties, a new Curve Booleans system, and many more powerful additions.

Foundry has released Modo 15.1, the latest version of Modo’s powerful and flexible 3D modeling, animation, texturing, and rendering toolset, and the second of the three linked releases that will form the Modo 15 Series. A lot of powerful additions to the tool's new version ensure that Modo will continue to make the lives of artists and designers easier and more productive.

New Features:

  • OmniHaul: An interesting new system for setting tool attributes and parameter values directly within the 3D viewport. With OmniHaul, users can assign custom combinations of attributes to different mouse buttons. Attribute values can then be adjusted interactively by clicking and dragging in the viewport or entering numerical values into a floating panel that pops up when the feature is active.
  • Static Analysis: A new automated system for detecting performance issues like floating vertices, empty groups, or unused images. Foundry describes Static Analysis as being similar to Modo’s existing Mesh Cleanup and Scene Cleanup systems, but providing a “richer set of test criteria”.
  • Curve Booleans: A new system for performing Boolean operations like intersect and subtract on 2D curves, then converting the resulting form into a 3D model. Modo’s 3D Boolean tools get a new Union All option, making it possible to perform a Boolean union on multiple meshes simultaneously, rather than having to add and merge meshes one by one.
  • mPath QuickCam: Users can now navigate through a scene within the standard render window, including the ability to “look around” similar to game navigation.
  • New tools for Animation and Rigging: The Stack Node enables visualization of stack-based relationships within the schematic node graph. Rig Clay enables user-defined gestural control and now supports control of MeshOps.
  • And more!
