GTA V Sales Surpassed 170 Million Copies

Take-Two shared that the lifetime sales of the GTA franchise reached 385 million copies and the Red Dead Redemption series has sold over 70 million copies.

Publisher Take-Two Interactive has released a new quarterly report revealing that the lifetime sales of the Grand Theft Auto series have surpassed 385 million copies with over 170 million of these 385 million units delivered by sales of Grand Theft Auto V.

As pointed out by Twitter user DomsPlaying, the new sales update reflects only a slight jump from the "nearly 170 million" the publisher mentioned in the previous quarterly report which might indicate a slowdown in the game's sales.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Take-Two executive VP of finance Hannah Sage said that the company currently only updates GTA 5's sales total in 5 million increments and added that the publisher has always forecast an eventual decline in the game's sales noting that they in fact exceeded Take-Two's expectations for the previous quarter.

The company also provided sales updates on the Red Dead Redemption series revealing that it has sold over 70 million copies in its lifetime which is 2 million units more since the last sales update. In addition, the publisher shared that Red Dead Redemption 2's sales surpassed 46 million copies.

As for the company's financial results, its revenue increased by 62% compared to Q2 2022 reaching $1.4 billion in Q2 2023. However, its net loss amounted to $257 million, while its net income was $10.3 million. The company attributed this to a weakened global economy as well as reduced mobile spending.
