This 10-hour course covers the workflow with modeling tools, techniques to model for SubD, master topology, and vert re-ordering.
The course is prepared by Henning Sanden, an experienced Senior Character Artist, and Character Modeler. During his film experience, he’s worked with Maya on movies such as Alien Covenant, Pirates of the Caribbean, Venom, Pacific Rim: Uprising, Batman V Superman, etc. In the tutorial, Henning will share the best techniques that he obtained during his career, dividing the content into 2 main chapters: theory and practice. The first part contains 32 lessons that cover the basics of Maya, scene organization, UV Mapping Basics and Shapes, workflow with hotkeys, fixing process of common mistakes, etc.
The second chapter is dedicated to the antique camera project, a 3 hour long real-time series. You’ll learn industry-standard techniques for building a high-quality antique camera, combining everything you’ve learned in the theoretical part of the course.
The lessons in the second chapter:
- Image Planes – Scale
- Block in
- Middle Piece
- Back Case
- Clean Up
The instructor notes that Introduction to Modeling in Maya is suitable for beginners, as no modeling knowledge in Maya is required to join the course, though he recommends viewing the navigation in the software before diving into techniques.
