Corbin Mayne, a Senior FX and CG Supervisor and a teacher at DoubleJump Academy offers a film FX workshop focusing on reverse engineering and learning insider techniques and tricks used by industry professionals to bring these effects to life using Houdini.
In the course of 24 weeks, you'll tackle the Avengers disintegration effect, the explosive bubble bomb from Solo, and a mesmerizing scene from Fantastic Beasts featuring a protective shield. From procedural interior surface generation to dynamic rigging with constraint tricks and creating dynamic shells, you'll gain invaluable knowledge, that will significantly boost your Houdini and FX skills and open new job opportunities.

What film effects you will reverse engineer in this workshop:
- Obscurus FX, a magical effect about control. You will learn to manipulate particles, volumes, and geometry with a completely custom VEX code that can help you achieve any look
- Bubble Bomb. You will learn to break down a complex, layered effect into simple setups and how to maintain that all-important sense of scale and explosive timing this epic shot requires
- Disintegration FX, one of the most common FX, but difficult to master. You'll unpack how to spread decay maps naturally and how to use this to drive an eye-catching disintegration FX that feels weighty and believable

DoubleJump Academy's teaching approach is hands-on training and project-based, meaning that the instructor will cover the theory and then put it into practice. You’ll learn how to quickly dissect reference footage into a simple action plan.
