Nintendo Says That a New Super Mario Bros. Movie Is On the Way

As well as confirms the launch date for the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake, and more.

If you're Nintendo's big fan, the following piece of news may brighten your day. During Mario Day 2024, the company shared that a new Super Mario Bros. Movie is in development and is planned to hit the screens on April 3, 2026.

The movie will be produced by Chris Meledandri, Founder and CEO of Illumination, and Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo, while Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will be on the direction board, with the script penned by Matthew Fogel.

"By getting deeply involved in the movie production with the aim to put smiles on everyone's faces through entertainment, Nintendo will continue its efforts to produce unique entertainment and deliver it to as many people as possible," reads the official statement from Nintendo and Illumination.

In addition, Nintendo announced the release dates for the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake, which is set to launch on May 23, 2024, and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, which arrives on June 27, 2024.

The company also revealed that Game Boy titles Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online on March 12, 2024.

Speaking of Nintendo, recently the company sued Yuzu, the developer of an open-source Nintendo Switch emulator, and won the case, making the creators shut down their projects and pay the penalty.
