Overwatch 2 Might Consider Collaborations with Major Brands

Overwatch's VP Jon Spector says collaborations with brands might be possible in Overwatch 2, adding that if or when the game introduces them, the team will make sure that they would feel like "a great fit for the Overwatch franchise."

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Overwatch's Vice President Jon Spector spoke about the plans for the game and possible collaborations.

When asked whether Overwatch 2 is planning to follow in the footsteps of games like Fortnite and Warzone which popularized collaborations with various brands like Dragon Ball Super and Attack On Titan, Spector replied that Overwatch 2 might consider this kind of collaboration. He, however, noted that in case the title collaborates with any brand, it will make sure that it would feel like "a great fit for the Overwatch franchise."

"If and when we do that, one of our key values is to do it in a way that feels like a great fit for the Overwatch franchise," Spector said. "So we've been more focused on those collaborations as the stuff we might be interested in doing. And less on the ads-in-our-game type stuff."

While Overwatch 2 will be focused on the monetization coming from battle passes and the in-game store, according to Spector, the team is planning to deliver "more content for free than ever before." He said that the free content will arrive on a regular basis and will be available to players all around the world.

Spector noted that the team aims to drop content updates sustainably for years after the game's launch. And he sees the free-to-play model as "fair and rewarding for players" regardless of whether they wish or not to spend money on it.

"We believe that's the best way to support the game on an ongoing basis," he said. "It's a really big shift versus asking players to spend forty or sixty bucks to come in the door, and then having different monetization models after that."
