Overwatch 2 Producer: $5 for 4 Legendary Skins Feels in the Spirit of the Holidays

Jared Neuss doesn't think the winter special deal is unfair.

Overwatch 2's Winter Wonderland 2023 is blooming, and with it came cosmetic rewards like skins, trinkets, sprays, and more. If you don't want to pay for the game in any way, you'll get only 120 tickets, which will get you one Legendary skin. Premium players (who paid for the Battle Pass) will be able to buy 4 skins but little lease, meaning there is just no way to receive every reward from the card.

Naturally, some players are not very happy with this fact. Come on, you pay for some pixels and you can't even get all of the holiday ones?

"I hate the fact that they're not letting us have enough tickets for all of it, it makes it feel incomplete," complained one fan. Another asked the game's director Aaron Keller and executive producer Jared Neuss for access to all rewards for Premium users "in the spirit of Christmas" as they're suffering of fear of missing out. Well, apparently, it's already pretty generous in Neuss's opinion.

"It's $5 for 4 Legendary skins, which feels squarely in the spirit of the Holidays to me," he replied. "I hear you on wanting to be able to unlock everything. We wanted to give folks choice in the rewards they got from this event. Will be interested to see if FOMO overshadows that benefit."

I'm not sure giving people who pay actual money all the rewards in a seasonal event is such a big deal, but I guess the choice was more important.

Overwatch 2 has not seen much kindness from the community since it was released. The idea to make it free but with questionable monetization in the form of Battle Passes wasn't that popular among players. Then Blizzard canceled the PvE mode that was the basis and the main marketing point of the whole new game, and it has never been the same since. Well, the company introduced some PvE missions later, but you have to pay for them, so... you get the idea.

I'd say unlocking new heroes through paid Battle Pass is the worst mechanic so far, but it might change soon. In a recent interview, Neuss said he wants everyone to experience new characters "on the day the season drops" and thinks they will get there, although it's not clear when.
