The Record Number of Game Projects Funded on Kickstarter in 2021

Kickstarter saw 441 video game projects funded in 2021 with $24 million raised.

According to data from Ico Partners, a record number of video games projects were funded in 2021 – 441 titles. It's only the third time over 400 projects in that category were funded in a year on the crowdfunding platform; before that, it was done in 2014 and 2020.

Despite such a great number of projects, they raised $24 million in 2021, a little less than 2020's $26 million and a lot humbler than 2013's $56 million.

Ico Partners also noted that 51 projects last year were raising between $100k and $500k – another fascinating achievement beating the previous record set in 2014.

All in all, Kickstarter remains a stable platform to raise money for video games. If you want to see how tabletop games did in 2021, check out Ico Partners' report here.
