Threads, Meta's Twitter Competitor, Has Gone Live

More than two million people have already joined the platform, according to Zuckerberg.

Threads, a new social media application developed by Meta, has been officially launched, presenting itself as a direct competitor to Elon Musk's Twitter.

The platform, referred to as "Instagram's text-based conversation app", closely resembles Twitter in functionality, allowing users to engage with posts, which are called "threads", through likes, comments, reposts, and shares.

However, Threads sets itself apart from Twitter by permitting users to create longer posts, extending up to 500 characters in length, whereas Twitter generally restricts most users to 280 characters. Additionally, Threads' threads support the inclusion of various media types, including photos, videos, and links.

To access Threads, users are required to have an Instagram account and can choose to automatically follow the same accounts they follow on Instagram, provided that those accounts have also joined this new application.

Threads has made its debut in various countries, including the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and over 100 other nations. However, due to the Digital Markets Act, European Union countries will not have access to the application at this moment.

According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, more than two million people have already joined the platform. You can register to Threads here and subscribe to 80 Level's Threads page over here.
