Tutorial: Unreal Environments In-Depth Level Creation Workflow

Wingfox has published a new-brand course dedicated to the creation of scenes in Unreal Engine and Quixel Mixer. 

This tutorial is created as a step-by-step introduction to Unreal Engine 4 for the creatives that would like to start their journey in UE and for those who'd be interested in upgrading their skills and acquiring more knowledge working with this platform. 

The tutorial guides you through the basics of UE and Quixel so you could have a brief understanding of the tools and their core features. Then your mentor will explain the workflow of producing and adding lights, materials, landscapes. In the course, the mentor will work in Unreal Engine, Maya, Adobe Substance 3D Painter, Adobe Photoshop, and Quixel Mixer. The course includes 35 hours of content split into 120 short lessons.

Key topics covered during the course: 

1. Quick introduction to UE4 
You will receive the basic knowledge of UE4. The mentor will explain the lights system, point light source, area light source, spotlight, and directional light. 

2. Basic materials of UE4 
The next part of the course is dedicated to Quixel Mixer. The mentor will explain how to import scanned materials from Quixel to UE.

3. Functional testing of materials in UE4
This step will lead you to the production logic of material and explain decal materials, emissive materials, foliage materials, transparent materials, translucent materials, water surfaces, and snow materials. 

4. Landscape materials 
Then you will be guided through the process of the creation of landscape materials.

5. Light baking and Model settings 
In the 5th lesson, you will learn how to produce the model assets, including the process of import and export of the model. Also, in this step, you will dive deep into the light baking process and receive proficiency in working with parameters of static, dynamic, and movable lights.

6. Visual and Rendering
In this part, you will learn about the post-process effects. The mentor will demonstrate how to add fog, exceptional height fog, and light fog to your environment.

7. Case production stage
At the end of the course, when you receive the core knowledge about Unreal Engine, the mentor will exemplify the logic of scene lighting and scene modification.

The course, also, includes the supplementary lesson, where the tutor will talk about case studies, sharing tips and tricks.
