V-Ray 6 for SketchUp Released

The update introduces V-Ray and Enscape compatibility, Enmesh, procedural clouds in V-Ray Sky, and more.

Chaos has released V-Ray 6 for SketchUp. The update includes most of the features present in V-Ray 6 for 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, and Maya

The biggest change for SketchUp is compatibility with Enscape, a real-time architectural rendering software: V-Ray now supports Enscape materials, lights, and compatible 3D models, and you can transfer your scene from Enscape to "take it to the highest possible level of photorealism."

"V-Ray equivalents have more options," Chaos told CG Channel. "And the grass in Enscape can be replaced by V-Ray Fur."

Other features include:

  • Distance Texture – vary effects such as displacement or procedural fur based on proximity to create a realistic correlation between the elements in your composition.
  • Enhanced Dirt texture – place dirt in your scene with higher precision by adding or excluding objects.
  • V-Ray Enmesh allows repeating geometry on the surface without instancing. Artists can create patterns like chainmail, car grills, and fabrics that are ready for a close-up.
  • Procedural clouds are now available in V-Ray Sky.
  • Improved Dome Light – a new Finite Dome mode now allows users to control the physical size of their light, according to radius and height.
  • Thin-Film Materials – A new thin-film layer has been added to the V-Ray Material, making it easy to create iridescent materials like soap bubbles and oil spills.
  • Chaos Cloud Collaboration – For project reviews, V-Ray 6 adds cloud collaboration, making it easy to share renders through Chaos Cloud via the V-Ray Frame Buffer (VFB).
  • Asset tags – group assets using the new tags system in the Asset Editor to improve scene organization in complex projects.
  • ACEScg Color Management – use a wider color palette for your render output with the industry-standard ACEScg color encoding system.
  • Pause and resume your renders at any time.
