Canceled Half-Life 2 Game Ravenholm Footage Revealed

Noclip published an hour of gameplay from the unfinished game by Arkane Studios.

Noclip revealed hour-long footage of Return to Ravenholm – a canceled Half-Life game developed by Arkane Studios, best known for its Dishonored franchise. The gameplay was recorded on-site while producing Noclip's documentary on the history of the studio in early 2020.

The game has not been finished, and you can see it in some sequences with missing textures and framerate drops.

Arkane Studios introduced a melee and physics combat system to Ravenholm, where you can kill enemies by throwing them on spikes or off ledges. Additionally, the studio encourages the player to use water and metal to propagate electricity, solve puzzles, and even kill zombies using a nail gun.

Another novelty was the inclusion of acid-spitting zombies and intelligent monkeys that try to flank you. As for the final boss, it might have been Grigori, which succumbs to the infection after continuously injecting himself with the serum to try and fight it, but this is not confirmed.

Return to Ravenholm was supposed to be set between Half-Life 2's episodes and feature Adrian Shepard from Half-Life: Opposing Force fighting together with slowly mutating Father Grigori. Unfortunately, the game was canceled by Valve after several levels had already been completed.
