In November 2023, we reported that Sony Pictures and Nintendo announced their collaboration on a live-action adaptation of the Legend of Zelda games.

We already know that the Director of the upcoming movie, Wes Ball, the one who worked on the Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is inspired by legendary Japanese Animator Hayao Miyazaki and wants the adaptation to be in a whimsical, "live-action Miyazaki" style.

Recently, Ball shared even more details on the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie, saying that he aims for an adaptation to be "a serious movie" that lets people escape from reality.

"I have this awesome idea," Ball shared with Total Film (thanks, GamesRadar). "I've been thinking about it for a long freakin' time, of how cool a Zelda movie would be... I want to fulfill people's greatest desires. I know it's important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape."

At the same time, the Director wants us to feel a "cool, but fun and whimsical" atmosphere.

"I want to try to create – it's got to feel like something real. Something serious and cool, but fun and whimsical," he continued.

Speaking of the adaptation, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda, previously shared that the movie had been in discussion for over 10 years. He mentioned that Nintendo and Sony are facing an "extremely high hurdle" with it, as it would be challenging to meet everyone's expectations.
