J Cube revealed Multiverse | USD 7.0 – the newest version of the USD solution for Maya.

The update introduces HydraVP2 viewport, which combines Maya's viewport with the USD Hydra render framework. The new viewport supports rich shading effects and provides increased draw performance. It also supports marquee- and multi-selection and allows both OpenGL and DirectX.

Another important update is the ability to write Maya shading networks, including from third-party renderers, to USD – "a pure USD solution and does not rely on MaterialX." Embedded shading networks can be changed with other DCC apps or rendered in 3Delight NSI.

Multiverse Explore and Override Window (MEOW) now features a new "Assign USD material" as an override and is now persistent: even when selecting other Maya nodes, it will keep displaying the latest selected Multiverse compound node.

Additionally, Multiverse is now built for both Python 2 and 3, with version 3 supported in Maya 2022 and 2023.
