Nintendo Says Tears of the Kingdom Price Reflects the Game's Immersive and Full Experience

The head of Nintendo USA stressed that the $70 price point will not become a new norm and game costs will depend on "the type of experience that fans can expect" from a particular game.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be the first Nintendo game that will cost $70 instead of the standard $60 price point. At the time, when the new price was revealed, Nintendo stressed that the $70 price will not be the norm going forward, and game costs will be determined on a "case-by-case basis."

Now, speaking to Associated Press, the head of Nintendo USA Doug Bowser explained that the pricing of Tears of the Kingdom was determined by considering the game's features and the experience that fans will receive.

"We look at what the game has to offer. I think fans will find this is an incredibly full, deeply immersive experience. The price point reflects the type of experience that fans can expect when it comes to playing this particular game," Bowser said.

He then reiterated that the price point of the new Zelda installment is not an indication that all future Nintendo titles will have the same price and added that the pricing model varies across different regions, where the cost of the game may differ based on the specific title.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled to release on May 12, 2023. Nintendo has confirmed that this latest addition to the series will offer players an expanded world that takes them beyond the vast lands of Hyrule and into the skies.
