The eagerly awaited sequel to the popular prison simulation game, Prison Architect, has faced another delay in its release date. Originally slated for a March release before being pushed to May, it is now scheduled to launch on 4th September, due to the emergence of "some new technical challenges".

In a statement posted on their forum, the developer team stated:

"While we currently have builds certified on all platforms and are ready to release, issues regarding memory usage and failures in minimum spec configurations have emerged."

As the launch neared,  the Prison Architect 2 team rigorously tested the final build's stability. The Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) report indicated that the game, particularly on minimum specs, didn't meet their stability targets. The statement continues:

"Once the issues were identified, we started working on improving Prison Architect 2’s memory usage to mitigate the situation. Overall, the work has been successful, and we have reached a satisfactory level of performance on lower specs. "

The team elaborated on how they plan to utilize the additional development time. They intend to focus on resolving issues such as crashes, freezes, and other game-stopping problems. Additionally, there is a plan to dedicate the time to enhancing existing features that they believe can be improved.

They concluded the statement by saying:

"We know this is a long wait but we’ll be with you all the way to release and we know this will give you a better game experience in the end. "

This statement is somewhat reminiscent of news from three days ago when the developers of Cities Skylines 2, also published by Paradox, decided to refund their criticized DLC, admitting it had been prematurely released. Well, a lesson learned is a step forward.

Prison Architect boasts a robust following, evidenced by its score of 90 from over 55,000 reviews on Steam. This high level of anticipation makes the delay of Prison Architect 2 particularly noteworthy. However, considering the issues with Cities Skylines 2, the delay could be beneficial.

As we patiently await the game's release in September, check out its announcement trailer if you haven't already:
