Run High-quality Scenes in Mobile VR with ‘Seurat’

Google presented a tool that can turn your high-quality scenes, like from any PC game, and run in mobile VR in real time.

At Google I/O, the company revealed Seurat, a tool that allows you to take your high-quality scenes, like from any PC game, and run them in mobile VR in real time.

What is the magic here? First of all, you define a volume within which you want a user to move around and view your scene. Seurat takes dozens of images within this volume and automatically generates an entirely new 3D scene that looks identical, but is dramatically simplified.

Seurat is all about optimizing your environment for VR. It doesn’t require powerful hardware and it can even take you to the world of Star Wars… The company announced a partnership with ILM to use Google’s Seurat to build more cinematic, mobile Star Wars VR experiences. And the video shows how specialists turned one of the Rogue One’s environments into VR-friendly scene.

Seurat is pure magic, you have to admit that. What are your thoughts on the technology? What would you turn into VR scene?
