Soulframe Director Reveals Some Details About the Game

Steve Sinclair assured players that despite Soulframe being in the very early stages of development, the trailer already contains cutscenes and assets from the game.

When Digital Extremes announced Soulframe, the studio's upcoming melee-oriented MMORPG inspired by such works as Princess Mononoke and The NeverEnding Story, they noted that the game was in the extremely early stages of development and shared that actually, it was "way too early to announce" it.

However, according to Soulframe director Steve Sinclair, who took to Twitter to share some details on the upcoming game, the recently unveiled trailer contains in-game cutscenes and assets. Sinclair also clarified that the studio has been working on the game for a little over a year, although the team only started to grow in 2022.

Besides, the game director explained that the word "soul" in the title refers to the central mechanics and theme of the game. However, despite Digital Extremes' love for the "soulsbourne" genre, the MMO has nothing to do with it.

Additionally, Sinclair attached a concept to his tweet depicting a female inquisitor (armor-clad humanoid from the game) who can also be seen in the reveal trailer.

Soulframe is expected to be similar to the studio's previous title, Warframe, in many ways, however, the developer refers to it as less of a sequel and more of a sister to it. The game will be more focused on melee rather than shooting and will feature slower and heavier gameplay, according to the studio. You can learn more about the upcoming title here.
