Memoria: A Fan-Made Game Concept Inspired by Final Fantasy IX

The project is being created as a tribute to Square Enix's original game using Unreal Engine 5.

Ever since the first video games were invented back in the late 50s – early 60s, it's been common for admirers of said games to produce fan-made works directly inspired by them. This project, however, brings this concept to a whole new level, with not just one, not two, but 36 different artists/fans working on something that pays tribute to a game they enjoy. Meet Memoria, a non-playable concept game that aims to reimagine what Square Enix's Final Fantasy IX would look like had it been released today.

Announced back in 2021, Memoria Project was named after the original game's penultimate dungeon, conjured from the planet's memories. What initially started as a two-people passion project eventually became a massive game concept with 36 different artists working on it. At the moment, the team produced two mesmerizing trailers that showcase Memoria's progress and feature a unique feel of Square Enix's 2000 RPG. According to the team, both trailers are powered by Unreal Engine 5.

Moreover, the developers regularly post new updates and demos via Twitter, demonstrating new features, environments, and characters added to Memoria, as well as hiring new artists eager to join the team.

"Final Fantasy IX is near and dear to our hearts, and this non-profit love letter is being created as a tribute to the masterpiece that is the 2000 original. We hope you enjoy our take and re-experience that whimsical charm that made the world of Gaia so captivating," comments the team.
