Overwatch: The Making of Mei's Short
7 September, 2017

The Overwatch team has posted a new behind-the-scenes look at the game’s most popular animated short, “Rise and Shine.” Haven’t seen the short yet? It tells the story of Mei living at Ecopoint: Antarctica, both before and after her forced cryogenic slumber after a storm knocks out communications.

Jeff Kaplan is also here to discuss the tie-ins to the actual game, breaking down concept, backstory and actual in-game mechanics. What is more, George Krstic, the head of story and creative development for the short, discussed Mei’s change as a character from the beginning of the short to its end, from a passive observer to the one who creates all of the action in the short.

The video also gives a glimpse at the animation process. Plus, more details on the story and lovable sidekick, Snowball. What are you waiting for? It’s an amazing seven-minute look at the studio magic!
