The development of Way to the Woods was launched in 2015 when Tan turned 16. The artist was inspired by Studio Ghibli films like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, and games like The Last of Us and Journey. The thing is that Anthony and his studio Happy Bee are supported by a publisher Team17, the company behind Beyond Eyes and My Time at Portia.
