Get ready for a workshop in Sherman Oaks this April with tips and tricks from Senior Environment Artist, Jacob Virginia, from Respawn Entertainment and Andres Rodriguez, Senior Environment artist from Naughty Dog. Kristin Christopher, a recruiter at Respawn will also join the party. A great chance to meet other like-minded artists, network, and learn from some of the best in the gaming industry.

Presenters:

1. 10:00-10:30AM

Manny Fragelus, Program Director of CGMA / Modeling Supervisor
Will be discussing the future of the Environment Arts Program at CGMA.

2. 10:30-11:30AM

Andres Rodriguez Senior Environment Artist – Naughty Dog

We are pleased to welcome Naughty Dog’s Andres Rodriguez. He will be doing a presentation centered around tips and tricks to speed up environment creation. He will be sharing his workflow methods, such as Maya hotkeys, menus and setup, modeling techniques and asset building theory. And finally, some quick notes and tricks on how to unwrap and map materials to create simple scenes. There will be a Q&A after.

3. 11:30AM-12:30PM

Kristin Christopher, Recruiter – Respawn

Kristin Christopher, Head of recruiting at Respawn Entertainment, will be doing a presentation on how to conduct yourself when applying for jobs and how-to prep for interviews. How to stand out among the masses. What recruiters look for in a great portfolio and website. What to do when you get hired (or not hired) and what follows next. Putting your best foot forward and how to be the best you! There will be a Q&A after.

4. 1:00-2:00PM

Jake Virginia, Senior Environment Artist – Respawn
We are pleased to welcome Respawn Entertainment’s Jacob Virginia, who will be doing a talk about the creation of modular environments in games, and how he built modular set pieces in Titanfall 2. Learn from Jacob, as he goes over how to plan out a modular scene, starting from a concept and a block out, to a final piece. Covering the rules as well as tips and tricks for creating modular assets. How to create successful tiling textures and trim sheets. How to maximize the use of your assets and textures, by reducing noise, and repetitiveness. How to introduce decals and unique props. As well as how to utilize your textures to create unique silhouettes, and shapes to break up your modular scene. There will be a Q&A after.
