Last year, we’ve reported about a new Houdini Plugin for Unreal Engine 4, which lets you use some of the software’s peculiar features to enrich your games. However we’ve actually missed one very interesting tutorial back than. It’s author Steven Burrichter shows how you can create amazing destruction in Unreal Engine 4, using Houdini.
The tutorial is bit very long (about 30 minutes) and it requires some basic knowledge of UE4 & Houdini, but it’s reasonably easy to understand.
Going step-by-step on taking a pre-made model, fracturing/simulating/baking out the results, and viewing them in Unreal Engine 4. The zip file can be obtained here: stevencburrichter.com/_DOWNLOADS/TUT_Fracturing.zip
Magnus Larssonac actully used this solution in a couple of his scenes and it works great with no hiccups. FPS stays just as steady as usual. Check it out.
